A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse whose care focuses on a particular group of patients. A CNS can in certain types of diseases (like diabetes or cardiovascular disease) are specialized, can work in many different medical areas (eg surgical, emergency room or intensive care) and can be a variety of methods (such as surgical focus or clinical). Needless to say, the CNS can be quite varied career.
Five general tasks of a clinical nurse specialist make daily schedule: clinical practice, teaching, research, consulting and management. CNSS Assessment skills tend to be focused more than a nurse practitioner, the focus being on a particular area of expertise. CNSS are able to provide more expertise and expert-level nurses (who have usually divided their responsibilities in many different sub-areas.)
